What is the Insanity workout review?

Hi my name is Lisa and it wasn’t that long ago when I was in your shoes and I was considering a way to get back into shape.  This is why I created the Insanity Workout Review blog.  I have found that there are countless others who probably are in my shoes and need someone to help steer them into the right direction.  So, if you’re considering Shaun T’s Insanity exercise workout then you should keep reading.

What I’ve learned over the past several months is that the Beachbody Insanity workout is pretty difficult.  Take it from me because I was always an overweight kid in school.  It’s easy to admit now because I am older, but back in high school it was a humiliating experience.  I blame this partly because I was never into exercising or eating right.

After graduation I managed to get my weight down a bit but I was still on the heavier side.  I tried all sorts of diets  and workout plans but they really didn’t help out much.  Late one night, however, I was channel surfing and saw an infomercial for Shaun T’s Insanity workout.  It looked intense but it also looked challenging.  So, with little hesitation I ordered it since they were offering a 60 day refund policy.

I can’t describe to you in words exactly how Insanity has changed my life.  After 60 days, I feel like a new person.

My best advice is to stick to the Beachbody Insanity plan as best you can and over time you will get better with it.  Try not to get too discouraged at the beginning as it can be very tough.  Just have the will to believe and you can power through it because the results are truly incredible!

What can you expect from the Insanity workout DVD?

Do you think your body can look amazing 60 days from now?  If you don’t think this is possible, then you need to consider the Insanity workout – a program that is designed for a 60 day full body transformation.  In 60 days this workout can get you where most other programs would take a year.

The great thing about this exercise program is that you don’t need weights because your own body supplies the resistance.  You don’t even need to spend countless hours at a gym.  I have found that it’s roughly an hour a day in your own home.  I will say that what you do need is will power – and lots of it!  That is because Insanity is going to test your limits physically and mentally.

You see, the Insanity workout is probably one of the toughest workouts ever put out on DVD – but if you stick with it for 60 days you’ll end up with the hardest body you ever had.  A body like Shaun T – the fitness expert and former track star who developed this workout program.

Traditional interval training features long periods of rest followed by short bursts of intense effort.  But Shaun T turned that model on its head with Max Interval Training – you do long bursts of intense exercise followed by short periods of rest.  As if that weren’t enough, you work out at your maximum capacity on every exercise, doing as many reps as you possibly can whether it’s 40 or 14.  If you give it your best, you could burn up to 1,000 calories a workout – now that’s insane!

Do you want to transform you body in only 60 days?  If you have the will, then the Insanity workout is for you.  I can truly say that Insanity provides everything that you need.  With the  program you get:

Questions About the Insanity Workout Review

Hi it’s Lisa again,

A number of people have been asking me some questions on my blog about my Insanity workout review.  I thought it would be helpful if I took the time to address some of these questions, so I am going to do that.  Found below are some common questions and my answers regarding the Insanity work out.

What do you get with the Insanity workout DVD fitness program?

I have received this question a lot, so it makes sense to address this one first.  When you receive the Insanity workout package, it will arrive at your door shipped in a nice box.  When you open the box you will find 10 DVDs which is the heart of the whole exercise program.  These DVDs contain all of the Insanity workouts that you will use to get your body back into shape.  These workouts are extremely important if you’re serious about getting back into shape, so take good care of them.

Each DVD has a theme and is labeled with a specific training routine.  Here’s what you can expect to see:

  • DVD #1 – Dig Deeper / Fit Test (approximately 28 minutes) – In this intro DVD you are going to start off by testing your body for the Insanity exercise program.  In this routine you will get the basis for how Insanity works.  Don’t get discouraged.  Just try to do the best you can do and stay determined.
  • DVD #2 – Plyometric Cardio Training (approximately 41 minutes) – In this DVD you will start an intense lower body workout using plyometrics which will include an great cardio program.
  • DVD #3 – Cardio Power and Resistance (approximately 39 minutes) – In this session, you will be introduced to strength training that will help you get lean and tone muscle.
  • DVD #4 – Cardio Recovery and Maximum Recovery (approximately 78 minutes) – In this video, Shaun T really ensures that you are ready for the next 30 days.  In this DVD you really get a full cardio workout.  Expect to work very hard!
  • DVD #5 – Pure Cardio and Abs (approximately 39 minutes) – This is one of the most intense workouts in the entire program.  In this one, you will really give it everything that you have and you will work on your cardio and abs.
  • DVD #6 -  Cardio Abs (approximately 21 minutes) – Like the previous exercise video, this one is similar but not as long.  You will use explosive intervals to really shape your body.
  • DVD #7 – Core Cardio and Balance (approximately 39 minutes) – This routine is perhaps one of my favorites.  I go into detail about this one in my previous blog post, Is Shaun T’s Insanity Workout a scam?
  • DVD #8 – Max Interval Circuit (approximately 59 minutes) – In this fitness video, you will use circuit training to work your body.  It starts to get very intense.
  • DVD #9 – Max Interval Plyo (approximately 56 minutes) – In this segment, you will push your legs as much as you can until you drop.  I have warned you!
  • DVD #10 – Max Cardio Conditioning (approximately 49 minutes) – This is the final DVD and of course it does not get any easier.  You will be pushed for the full 49 minutes.

Besides the 10 DVDs, you also get a few other items that are worth mentioning.  Some of these items are included as free gifts from Shaun T when you placed your order.  These items typically include:

  • Nutrition Plan – This is a diet plan that you can use right away.  Use it with the workouts to achieve the full benefit.

How does the Insanity Workout program work?

This is another common question that I receive.  The main reason why Shaun T’s Insanity workout is so effective is that he utilizes a technique called Max Interval Training.  This is when you do extended periods of intense exercises and combine it with short periods of moderate exercise.  This works well with the body when you are trying to get results fast.

With the technique you will be performing a lot of intense cardio to burn fat, drills to build up your speed, resistance training to build up your overall body and core exercises to create the perfect abs.

Does the Insanity work out work?

I can honestly say that the Insanity work out is for real.  If you dedicate the time, follow the nutrition plan, you will lose weight and transform your body.  I am living proof that you can use Shaun T’s exercise program and get results that you deserve.  The only thing stopping you is yourself.

Is Shaun T’s Insanity Workout a Scam?

You may be wondering if Shaun T’s Insanity workout is a scam?  Well I’m here to tell you that Insanity is probably one the best and toughest workouts on the market today.  I can say this because I have tried many programs, including P90x.  In my opinion, Shaun T’s Insanity really conditions your body from top to bottom.  Believe me, I am a mother of two and if I can do it, so can you!

There is a reason why they call the workout program ‘Insanity’.  Trust me when I say that this stuff is intense.  You see, the secret to Shaun T’s work out is that he utilizes a system called Max Interval Training.  In this type of fitness training you will be working out at your maximum exercise rate and taking very short breaks.  Over the course of 30-55 minutes you will be tested to your maximum potential.  Your body will take some time to adjust and just when it does, the Insanity work out program changes so that you work a new muscle group with greater intensity.  This is really good as your body will develop lean muscle.   I really like the challenging exercises.

Here is my favorite exercise routine found in the Insanity program:

  • Core Cardio and Balance (DVD #7 – 38 minute workout)

In this workout you will be exercising for about 38 minutes including warm up/down.  This fitness routine typically starts in the second month and I think it’s one of the better exercise workouts.

The workout starts with a 7 minute warm-up which includes 6 one-minute exercises and a mini water break:

Exercise 1: Hell Switch Kicks (sort of like a slow jump rope motion)

Exercise 2: Mummy Kicks

Exercise 3: Football Shuffle (Side to side)

Exercise 4: Over the Log (Run on spot, jump, and then run on spot)

Exercise 5: 8 High Knees/8 Power Jacks

Exercise 6: 8 Fast Feet/8 Hooks

Immediately after the warm-up is a stretch routine.  The stretching lasts for about five minutes and after you can have a quick water break.  When the water break is over, you will notice that there is still 26 minutes remaining on the Insanity workout DVD.  Well, this is where the real fun starts…

The real cardio work out begins for almost the remainder of the DVD (this fitness routine is similar to some others on the market like the P90X and Tony Horton’s One on One but personally I like this one better).

As the exercises begin you will hear Shaun T provide an overview about each move that you need to perform.  You get about 20 seconds to learn them before really pumping it up.  Here is a sample of some of  the exercises over the next 20 or so minutes:

  1. Ski Hops (Jump 4 hops to the left, and then 4 back to the right, repeat)
  2. Hit the Floor (Pick up speed about half-way through)
  3. Level 1 Drills (4 push ups, 8 run in place, repeat)
  4. Heisman (Pick up speed about halfway through)
  5. 8 Switch Kicks/8 Hop Squats
  6. High Jumps (Standing stationary, jumping as high as you can each jump)
  7. Moving Plank Walk (in a push up stance, walking to the left, maintaining plank, then back again, repeat)
  8. 8 Elbows/4 Suicide Drills
  9. 4 – 4 Hops (on one leg, one knee up, hop 4 times, jump over, and repeat on the other leg)
  10. 8 Jabs/Jumps & Turn/8 Jabs

Now, just when you think you are done…there’s still about 6 minutes left.  You’re almost there…the next few exercises go as follows:

  1. Hip Flex Burners.  This exercise really does what is says, burns your hips.  Essentially,  you will raise you knees to your waist and bring it back down to the ground repeating the process.  Next you do the same thing but then add some kicks to the routine.  This is done for about 30 seconds and it works the abs and hips really well!   After that great work you get another mini water rest.
  2. Oblique Knee Lifts.  To do this exercise, simply keep your arms up and raise your knees out to the side.  You will work each side for about 30-40 seconds each.
  3. Shoulder Burners.  To do this exercise, you will perform a squat with you knees pointed out wide.  Your arms will be straight out and you will move them out and in and then straight out and in circles.

Once you finish these 3 exercises you are now in the cool down which takes about 3 minutes.  Congrats,  your survived the Core Cardio DVD.

As I mentioned before, I like this workout because it really is intense and is a full cardio workout.  Yes, you may be very sore for the next several days but I say that it’s worth it.  Remember to stick to your nutrition plan when you do these workouts to achieve your maximum potential.

BeachBody Insanity Nutrition Guide

As you’re probably aware, Insanity is an intense workout program that gets in you shape fast!  Apart from exercise, the other half of the program involves your nutrition.  Today, I would like to share with you my Beachbody Insanity Review of the workout nutrition guide that comes with the Insanity program.  This guide is part of Shaun T’s Insanity workout and I’m really glad they added it.  The idea behind the nutrition guide is very basic, which I’m sure you will agree works with your body so that you will achieve the best results in the shortest time possible.  I have found that the combination of the workouts and the nutrition plan makes the whole program really effective.

The Insanity Workout Nutrition guide is essentially two parts:  The first 30 days (month 1) and the second 30 days (month 2).  In the nutrition plan you will find that you are asked to eat five meals per day.  This means that you will roughly eat something every 2-4 hours.  There is good reason for this.  The science suggests that eating often and regularly gets your body burning fat.  So the more often you eat, the more often your body will work like a furnace and burn away fat (in combination with the Beachbody Insanity work outs).

In total there are 50 meal recipes in the nutrition plan, so you have lots of choices.  Found below is some basic information about the plan for month one and month two.

First Month (Days 0-30)

Most meals will consist of roughly 300 calories.  However, if you find that you need more calories, there are directions on how to increase one meal 100-200 more calories.  These additional calories are described as ‘food blocks’ in the Beachbody Insanity nutrition guide.  It suggests that there will be times when your body is craving additional energy, so you can use these ‘food blocks’ to increase your caloric intake in the form of a snack.

Second Month (Days 31-60)

In the second month you will definitely eat a lot more!  This is because your body’s metabolism will be super charged and it will burn far more calories than before due to the insane workouts you’ve been doing.  You are also going to notice that in the second month your body will require additional energy to function properly.  So you will add additional calories to help compensate your body.  The nutrition guide provides a formula on how to balance your caloric intake based on your body type and workouts.  It’s really quite simple to follow.

Delicious Recipes

Here is a sneak peek at seven (7) of the delicious recipes that you can expect from the Insanity nutrition plan.  I will be honest and tell you that each one of these are very tasty.  If you are used to fast food, then it may take some time.  But trust me, this food is fresh, and you will in very short time realize the benefits by feeling much better about yourself.  Each meal takes between 7-20 minutes to prepare, which is pretty good for eating healthy.

RECIPE: PROTEIN PANCAKE

  • 1 whole egg
  • 2 egg whites
  • 1 scoop whey protein powder
  • 1/4 cup instant oatmeal
  • Combine ingredients with a few spoonfuls of water. Mix together well, and then cook one large pancake on a non-stick skillet coated with cooking spray.
  • Nutrition Breakdown: 313 calories, 31 grams protein, 27 grams carbohydrate, 8 grams fat, 5 grams fiber

RECIPE: BERRY PROTEIN SMOOTHIE

  • 1-1/2 scoops protein powder
  • 1/2 cup fresh or frozen berries (your choice)
  • 1 cup skim, almond, rice, or soy milk and ice
  • Combine all  the ingredients in a blender until smooth and enjoy.
  • Nutrition Breakdown: 306 calories, 36 grams protein, 36 grams carbohydrate, 3 grams fat, 3.5 grams fiber

RECIPE: INSANITY SPECIAL SANDWICH NUT BUTTER AND JELLY

  • 1 slice whole-grain bread
  • 1 tbsp. all-natural peanut butter or almond butter
  • 1 tbsp. all-fruit preserves or 1/4 sliced banana
  • 1/2 cup cottage cheese, 1%
  • Make half of a nut butter and jelly sandwich. Try serving with some cottage cheese.
  • Nutrition Breakdown: 289 calories, 22 grams protein, 29 grams carbohydrate, 11 grams fat, 4 grams fiber

RECIPE : TURKEY BLT

  • 2 slices whole wheat bread
  • 3 slices turkey bacon
  • Sliced tomato
  • Lettuce
  • 1 fresh pear
  • Make a sandwich of first 4 ingredients and serve with a fresh pear.
  • Nutrition Breakdown: 293 calories, 13 grams protein, 46 grams carbohydrate, 9 grams fat, 8 grams fiber

RECIPE: VEGGIE OMELET

  • 2 whole eggs
  • 2 egg whites
  • Mushrooms and/or onions to taste
  • 1 slice whole-grain wheat toast
  • 1 tbsp. all-fruit preserves
  • In a non-stick pan coated with cooking spray, make an egg omelet with 2 whole eggs plus 2 egg whites, sauteed mushrooms and/or onions, and serve with 1 slice of whole-grain wheat toast topped with 1 tbsp. of all-fruit preserves.
  • Nutrition Breakdown: 301 calories, 24 grams protein, 25 grams carbohydrate, 11 grams fat, 3 grams fiber

RECIPE: STEAK WITH BROCCOLI

  • 3 to 4 oz. flank steak, filet mignon, or sirloin
  • Olive oil
  • Sea salt and pepper for taste
  • 1 small baked potato
  • Dijon mustard
  • 1 cup steamed broccoli
  • Lemon juice for taste
  • Brush steak with olive oil and sprinkle with some sea salt and freshly ground pepper. Grill or broil steak on both sides for 5-7 minutes, or until desired. Serve steak with a small baked potato topped with country Dijon mustard and steamed broccoli topped with fresh lemon juice.
  • Nutrition Breakdown: 304 calories, 30 grams protein, 33 grams carbohydrate, 6 grams fat, 7.5 grams fiber

RECIPE : TURKEY CHILI

  • 1 cup turkey or veggie chili (homemade or store-bought)
  • Mixed greens
  • 2 egg whites, hard-boiled
  • Red wine vinegar
  • 1 tsp. olive oil
  • Serve chili with a mixed green salad topped with 2 hard boiled egg whites and dressed with oil and vinegar.
  • Nutrition Breakdown: 310 calories, 23 grams protein, 30 carbohydrate, 10 grams fat, 7 grams fiber

Hi, my name is Lisa.  If you’re reading this, you must be thinking about the Insanity work out program.  This is my blog about the Insanity workout review.  I’m here to tell you that I got it a few months ago and I have not looked back.  In a nutshell, the Insanity workout routine was designed by an ex-track athlete named Shaun T.  He created a total body conditioning program that will work for anyone who is serious about getting into shape and who wants to see results quickly.  I can honestly tell you that if you put in the time and follow the routines as best as you can, you will be rewarded with a body that you always wanted.

My Battle With the Bulge

I used to be a little more than over-weight.  In fact, just 2 months ago I weighed 178 pounds!  My journey started a few months ago when I took a look at myself in the mirror.  I realized that I was unhealthy and that I wanted to change the way that I looked.

I tried a variety of solutions.  I tried diets, those ab-crunchers advertised on TV and a variety of pills.  For some reason I was never able to keep the weight off.  I was starting to lose hope.  But then, like a rainbow after a good storm, I was channel surfing one day and noticed the infomercial for the Shaun T’s Insanity workout.

The first thing that I noticed about the workout was that it was very intense.  It looked tough but it also looked like it was fun.  I decided that if I wanted to get back into shape than I had to make a commitment with myself.  This was one of things that the infomercial said.

Another good thing that I learned from the infomercial was that no weights or equipment was needed.  You see, the whole program is based on the resistance and weight of your own body.  Essentially your body is the tool that will give you more power, strength, and endurance in as little as 60 days.  Now, I knew that I wasn’t going to look like a supermodel overnight, so I kept my expectations realistic.  But what I did want was to feel better about myself.

Did the Insanity Workout Work For Me?

So, did the Insanity workout work for me?  Absolutely, it did.  I’ve attached a before and after picture below which is just 2 months of being on the work out program.  I am thrilled with the results and I know that I’m well on the path to getting even better.  In the upcoming posts,  I will explain in more detail the Insanity workout review program and how you can use it effectively to get back into the best shape of your life.
